Nippers U/6 – U/14 (Under 13 & 14 refer Youth Section)
Welcome to your new Season, 2011/ 2012.
Part of doing Nippers, is being part of a club.
The Mornington Life Saving Club Nipper program is run by a group of dedicated volunteers with the sole purpose of educating kids about the beach, surf and safety. This is balanced with a healthy dose of competition.
During the season, our Nippers will be involved in the following:
- Surf Education: This program is aimed at equipping our kids with the knowledge required to keep them and their friends safe on the beach. We use a training program devised by Life Saving Victoria that is tailored to the specific age groups we look after.
- Water Skills: The training sessions will always involve water based activities. It is the beach after all! So expect your kids to get wet. The Nippers learn skills that include safe board handling, open water swimming skills, and in the older groups, rescues. We do not teach swimming. All Nipper kids must meet a minimum swimming requirement at the start of the season to be eligible for their age group.
- Competition: For those Nippers that want to test their skills on the beach and in the water, Mornington Life Saving Club participates in a number of carnivals over the summer. These can be found in the calendar section. In the relevant age groups, Nippers must pass another proficiency test to be eligible for the carnivals.
Our Age Group Managers are all volunteers from the Life Saving Club and undertake a specific coaching course to ensure their knowledge is up to date. They are all parents of kids in the program and generously give of their time to make the Nipper Program as enjoyable as possible for all. They have a volunteer assistant Age Group Manager, and a Volunteer Admin Manager to help them get through each week. The more help the more fun!! We have a ratio of 1 coach:15 kids, so the more help we can get the more kids we can support.

Uniform
Club Uniforms are on sale each Sunday morning during Nipper Training (see merchandise).
Caps are compulsory for all participants.
Club Bathers are required for Competition.
